Hops pillow
Pick hops strobiles (the flower cones) and dry them in a cool shady place. Make a small bag for the pillow out of cloth, leaving one end open – any size you like, but 20cm x 30cm works well. Fill the bag loosely with the dried hops (or add lavender if you wish) so that the finished pillow will be 1 or 2cm thick, then stitch up the open end. Place this under your regular pillow to help with sleep.

The hops will gradually lose their volatile oils and therefore their effectiveness, so for best results replace the contents of your pillow every three months. Use hops that have been stored in the dark, in an airtight container. If your dried hops turn pinkish or reddish, their oils have been exhausted, and they should be discarded.
